Rion Paige from Jacksonville, Florida, sang her way to the semi-finals of the 2013 season of The X-Factor. Rion’s rendition of Carrie Underwood’s “Blown Away” grabbed the attention of all four judges during her audition. Simon remarked that Rion is, “...literally extraordinary.” Rion received a standing ovation for her performance and Simon “This is the easiest yes I have ever given anyone in my life.” Her raw talent and warmth resonated and energized a very large fan base, who voted her through to the Top 5.
For Big Band week, Rion chose LeAnn Rime’s version of “Swingin,” showing her spunkiness and contagious energy. Fans young and old were moved by her performances of Elton John’s “Your Song” and Thompson Square’s “Glass.”
Rion’s fighting spirit showed through when she sang, “Born This Way” by Lady Gaga, exclaiming to the world that a “difference” can make you stronger and more determined. Born with arthrogryposis multiplex congenita, a rare disorder that causes a curving of the joints, Rion has always found ways to adapt, but has never let anything get in her way of reaching for the stars.
Rion is now performing at venues throughout the United States. She sees performing as an opportunity to glorify God, to inspire people and to prove that the fire that burns within is strong enough to overcome any obstacle.
